Choosing Your Small Van Lease

December 14th, 2021

Choosing your small van lease is a big decision. It’s important to make sure you choose not only the right business van lease, but also the right small van for your business. The right van leasing company will also offer a range of financing options and help tailor your small van lease deal to you.

To read more about what to look for in a van finance company – read our article here.

Types of Business Van Lease

A van leasing company will provide 3 options for financing; Contract Hire, Finance Lease, and Hire Purchase. All three require monthly payments across the agreed lease term, however there are some major differences to be aware of.

  • Contract Hire: A long term rental of 2-5 years. VAT cost is spread over the lease term, and options for low upfront payments are available. The vehicle in handed back at the end of the agreement, subject to excess mileage and damage charges.
  • Finance Lease: This option (like Contract Hire) offers the possibility of low upfront payments; VAT is spread over the 2-5 years of the agreement. However, with Finance Lease you have more options at the end of the contract. You can: buy the vehicle, sell to a 3rd party, trade back, or re-finance. There are also no excess mileage or damage charges.
  • Hire Purchase: VAT is paid in full upfront rather than spread over a 2-5 year term. There is no final rental payment, and no mileage charges. You retain full ownership at the end of the term.

In the simplest terms: Hire Purchase is renting to buy, Contract Hire is renting to hand back, and Finance Lease bridges the two – with more flexibility at the end of lease.

Small Vans

Many industries make use of small vans – from last mile delivery couriers, to sole traders who need a vehicle they can park easily in a city. Here is a run down of some of our best-selling small vans, so you can find the best small van lease for you!

Fiat Fiorino Cargo:

Fiat’s Micro Van offers great load space of 2.5m³ – giving you more space for tools/parcels than offered by a car. The Euro 6 1.3L engine complies with the latest emissions standards, meaning city driving wont cost you extra.

Fiat Doblo Cargo:

Fiat’s Small Van offers even more load space for larger loads with a versatile 3.4m³ of square cargo space. The winner of 2 International Van of the Year awards, the Doblo Cargo is a small van lease favourite. Euro 6 compliant engines, great turning circle, and excellent fuel efficiency make it ideal for both city and motorway driving.

Ford Transit Courier:

A compact van that doesn’t compromise on load space, with one of the best turning circles in its class. The Ford Transit Courier benefits from up to 2.4 cubic metres of load space, over 10% more than others in its class. Loading and unloading is also made easy with a sliding side door and rear loading doors. A Ford Transit Courier small van lease is a favourite among town and city-based businesses. With the roomy cab, hands free technology and device dock, longer journeys are also problem free.

Ford Transit Connect:

Ford’s small van offers durability and functionality with an updated new look. It is available in 2x lengths, with impressive load capability for its small size. Classic Transit toughness remains, but with the addition of driver comfort features such as the media system with steering wheel controls offered as standard. The Ford Transit Connect is also designed to keep your tools & cargo safe with a Thatcham Cat 1 Alarm and Auto re-locking. With its professional exterior and excellent load capacity, Ford Transit Connect van leasing is a popular choice among couriers, tradespeople, and those looking to expand their fleet.

Citroen Berlingo:

Compact but spacious with a load volume of up to 4.40 cubic metres, the Citroen Berlingo can comfortably carry 2x euro pallets. The spacious cab is complete with storage solutions and a high driving position which offers an improved view of the road. A Category 1 Thatcham alarm, deadlocks and Hill Start Assist mean the Berlingo caters for the safety of both driver & cargo. So, combine these features with low emissions and excellent fuel economy and it is clear why so many businesses opt for a Citroen Berlingo small van lease.
